Bike Rack Art Competition

Project Summary
Preble Trails and the Preble County Art Association are seeking an original design to be laser cut and fastened to pre-fabricated metal bike racks that will be placed in various Eaton locations. The goal of this project is to commission a design that highlights or reveals something unique about the recreational, environmental, or aesthetic beauty of Preble County. The design should serve as a focal point on the bike rack. This aesthetic addition to the pre-fabricated bike rack will visually connect biking to our healthy and friendly community. Artists whose designs are selected will receive a $100 award.  More than one design for this project may be chosen.

Bike Rack Specifics

Artists are asked to submit a DESIGN only. All laser cutting and welding will be done by  Henny Penny in Eaton.  Any chosen design will become property of Preble Trails and the PCAA and will be reproduced. Any chosen designs that do not fit the technical needs of laser cutting may be altered by the PCAA. Bike racks are 90” long x 48” tall and 36” wide. Design may be created for the long top face of the installation only. With added designs, racks must not exceed 70” in height, 36” in width or 90” in length. Design Guidelines
This Call for Submissions is for design only. The request does not include application of the design onto the bike rack. It is not required that the design cover the entire bike rack. Designs will be laser cut. Please design accordingly.


Designs must be submitted by April 25th by 5pm. Entries may be dropped off at the Visual Art Center of Preble County, 601 Hillcrest Dr. in Eaton, Ohio or emailed to Digital entries are preferred to be a vector image of the following file type .ai, .eps, .cdr or a vector preserved pdf. We will accept other digital file types with the understanding that if selected the design will be recreated in a vector format by another artist, along with the paper entries. Paper entries must be of high quality and not exceed 8” x 14” in dimension. Please use black ink.

Any artist of any age or skill is eligible and encouraged to submit entries so long as they are able to meet the design guideline criteria.
